Health and Safety Policy
At Little Wonderland Nursery Ltd, the safety and well-being of our children, staff, parents, and visitors are our highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for children aged 2 to 5 years, ensuring compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
1. Responsibilities
Management Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and inspections.
- Provide appropriate training to staff on health and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of accidents, incidents, and first aid treatments.
Staff Responsibilities:
- Supervise children to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and report hazards promptly.
- Participate in health and safety training.
- Maintain a clean and tidy environment.
Parent/Carer Responsibilities:
- Inform the nursery of any health conditions or special requirements for their child.
- Follow nursery procedures for drop-off and collection.
2. Risk Assessment
Regular risk assessments will be conducted to identify and minimize hazards in the nursery environment, including:
- Indoor and outdoor play areas
- Furniture and equipment
- Fire safety measures
- Food preparation and storage areas
3. First Aid and Medical Procedures
- A trained first aider will be present on-site at all times.
- First aid kits are available in designated areas and taken on any outings.
- All accidents and injuries will be recorded in the using EYLOG online platform and reported to parents.
- Medication will only be administered with written parental consent and in line with the settings administration of medication policy.
4. Fire Safety
- Fire drills will be conducted every term or as part of a new staff members induction process as minimum.
- Fire exits will be clearly marked and kept unobstructed.
- Fire alarms and extinguishers will be regularly tested and maintained.
5. Hygiene and Infection Control
- Handwashing will be encouraged for all staff and children.
- Toys and equipment will be cleaned regularly.
- Policies will be followed for managing contagious illnesses, including exclusion periods for children.
6. Food Safety and Allergies
- Staff handling food will be trained in food hygiene level 2 as a minimum with this being refreshed as a minimum every three years.
- Nut-free and allergen-aware policies will be followed.
- Special dietary requirements will be accommodated.
7. Safeguarding and Security
- Secure entry systems will be in place to control access to the nursery.
- Staff will be trained in safeguarding and child protection.
- Visitors will be required to sign in and out.
8. Incident Reporting
- All accidents, incidents, and near-misses will be reported and logged.
- Serious incidents will be reviewed to prevent recurrence.

10. Monitoring and Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or in response to significant changes or incidents.
