Procedure:  Safely Managing bodily fluids within nursery playrooms.

Purpose

To ensure urine spills are managed safely, hygienically, and promptly to protect children, staff, and the learning environment.

Scope

This procedure applies to all staff working in Little Wonderland Nursery

  1. Immediate Response
  • Stay calm and act promptly.
  • Remove children from the affected area to prevent slips or contact.
  • Place a temporary barrier or sign if needed to restrict access.
  1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Put on disposable gloves and apron before starting clean-up.
  1. Removal of Urine
  • Absorb urine using paper towels or disposable absorbent cloths.
  • Avoid spreading the liquid further across the floor.
  • Dispose of used materials immediately into a tied bag then into a sealed bin.
  1. Cleaning the Area
  • Clean the area with warm water and Clean Pro+ Fast Acting Antibacterial Cleaner & Disinfectant H2FA.
  • Use a clean disposable cloth and dispose in a tied bag
  • Ensure all visible residue is removed.
  • Allow contact time of minimum of 30 seconds
  • Dry area with clean disposable cloth and dispose in a sealed bin(within nappy changing area)
  • Allow the floor to air dry completely.
  1. Final Checks
  • Ensure the area is:
    • Dry
    • Free from odour
    • Not slippery
  • Remove barriers once safe for use.
  1. Hand Hygiene
  • Remove gloves and apron and dispose of them appropriately.
  • Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  1. Documentation
  • Record the incident in line with nursery procedures

  • Always use separate cleaning equipment for bodily fluids.
